Privacy Policy

Globe Streaks is a free, web-based geography and world-knowledge game. This Privacy Policy explains what information is collected when you use Globe Streaks, how it is used, and what choices you have.

Globe Streaks offers optional user accounts. Creating an account is not required to play any game. Guests can play all modes and maintain local progress without providing any personal information.

If you choose to create an account, the following information is collected and stored:

• Your email address, used for authentication and password resets.
• A hashed password stored and managed by Supabase Auth. Globe Streaks never sees your plaintext password.
• Your game progress — completed quiz results, daily scores, streak information, and quiz history — stored in a cloud database so it can be accessed across devices.
• A member-since timestamp set when your account is created.

Account data is stored on servers managed by Supabase, Inc. Supabase acts as a data processor on Globe Streaks' behalf. Your data is associated with your authenticated user ID and protected by Row Level Security policies that prevent any user from reading another user's data. Accounts use cookie-based sessions. An authentication cookie is stored in your browser when you sign in and is used to maintain your session across pages. This cookie is required for account features to work; it is not used for advertising or tracking.

Account features are not available in all deployments of Globe Streaks. If account features are not configured, no authentication cookies are set and no account data is collected.

Self-service account deletion is not currently available through the Globe Streaks interface. To request deletion of your account and all associated data, please contact us using the information in Section 15. We will delete your account and associated progress data upon request. We do not retain your data after deletion beyond what may be required by applicable law or retained in backup systems for a limited period.

Globe Streaks stores game data directly in your browser's local storage. This data never leaves your device and is not transmitted to Globe Streaks servers. It includes:

• Daily quiz results — scores, answers, and completion status for each day played.
• GlobeDrop daily results — scores, guess coordinates, and distances for each day played.
• Streak counts — how many consecutive days you have completed World Daily, GlobeDrop Daily, and the combined challenge.
• Challenge history — up to 50 entries recording game IDs, seeds, scores, and challenge URLs for challenges you created or played.
• Activity log — up to 500 records of completed games across all modes, used to power the Passport progress page.

Because this data is stored only in your browser, it is not accessible to us and is not backed up by Globe Streaks. Clearing your browser's local storage or cookies will delete this data permanently. It is also not shared between different devices or browsers.

Globe Streaks uses third-party analytics services to understand how the site is used and to monitor performance. These services may collect technical information automatically when you visit the site.

Google Analytics 4

When enabled, Google Analytics 4 (GA4) collects information including your IP address (which Google may use to derive approximate location), browser type, operating system, device type, referring website, pages visited, and time spent on pages. Globe Streaks also sends custom events to GA4 — such as when a game is started, a question is answered, a challenge is created, or a daily challenge is completed — along with non-personal game parameters such as the game mode, score, and streak length. No personally identifiable information (such as your name or email) is included in these events.

GA4 sets first-party cookies in your browser (typically named_gaand_ga_XXXX) to distinguish returning visitors and sessions. These cookies are set by Google's domain on behalf of Globe Streaks. For more information, see Google's Privacy Policy.

GA4 is loaded only when a Measurement ID is configured. If this feature is not enabled in a given deployment, no GA4 scripts are loaded and no GA4 data is collected.

Vercel Web Analytics

Globe Streaks uses Vercel Web Analytics to track page views and visitor counts. Vercel processes this data on Globe Streaks' behalf. For information about how Vercel handles data, see Vercel's privacy documentation.

Vercel Speed Insights

Globe Streaks uses Vercel Speed Insights to monitor page load performance metrics. This may include technical information such as page load times, browser, and device type. No personally identifiable information is collected for this purpose.

Globe Streaks loads fonts (Cormorant Garamond, Inter, and Outfit) via Google Fonts. When your browser fetches these fonts, your IP address and browser information are sent to Google's servers as part of the standard HTTP request. This is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.

When you create a challenge, Globe Streaks generates a shareable URL that encodes the game configuration (game type, seed, and optional difficulty or continent). This information is not personal data and is not stored on Globe Streaks servers — it is encoded directly in the URL and saved in your browser's local storage. When someone opens a challenge link, the game configuration is decoded from the URL itself.

Globe Streaks does not currently display advertising. No advertising networks, social media pixels (such as the Meta Pixel or TikTok Pixel), or remarketing tags are used on this site.

Information collected through analytics services is used to:

• Understand how visitors use Globe Streaks and which features are most popular.
• Identify and resolve technical problems.
• Monitor site performance.
• Guide future development decisions.

Globe Streaks does not sell personal information to third parties.

Data stored in your browser's local storage persists until you clear it yourself. Globe Streaks does not control or have access to guest-only local storage data.

Account data (email, progress records, streaks) is retained for as long as your account exists. Upon receiving a valid deletion request, we will delete your account data. Some residual copies may remain in backup systems for a limited period before being permanently overwritten.

Analytics data is retained according to the policies of the respective providers (Google Analytics 4, Vercel). Globe Streaks does not have direct control over these retention periods. Google Analytics data retention can be configured in your GA4 property settings.

Globe Streaks is served over HTTPS. However, no method of transmission over the internet or method of electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Globe Streaks is a general-audience geography game and is not directed specifically to children under the age of 13. The site does not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because third-party analytics services are used, some technical information (such as IP address and browser type) may be processed when any visitor — including a child — uses the site.

If you are under 13, we recommend using Globe Streaks with the involvement or permission of a parent, guardian, or teacher.

Parents or guardians who believe their child has used the site and have questions about data handled by analytics providers are encouraged to review the privacy policies of those providers and to use browser controls to manage or disable cookies.

Globe Streaks is accessible worldwide. By using the site, visitors from outside the country in which Globe Streaks operates acknowledge that analytics data may be processed and stored in other countries, which may have different data protection standards. Globe Streaks does not make specific representations about compliance with any particular national or regional privacy regulation.

You have several ways to control data collection:

• Browser local storage:You can clear Globe Streaks data by clearing your browser's local storage or site data in your browser settings. This will delete all saved scores, streaks, and game history.
• GA4 cookies: You can delete or block the_gacookies using your browser's privacy settings. You can also use the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
• Do Not Track: Globe Streaks does not currently respond to browser-level Do Not Track signals because there is no universally accepted standard for what action to take in response.

This Privacy Policy may be updated as Globe Streaks changes or as legal requirements evolve. Updates will be reflected by a revised "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of Globe Streaks after a policy update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
