About this quiz

Flags cluster by region more than people expect. The Pan-African colors (red, gold or yellow, green) show up on Ethiopia, Ghana, Senegal, Mali, and a dozen others, mostly as a deliberate nod to Ethiopia's flag after independence. Nordic countries all use some version of the offset cross. Central American flags share the same blue-white-blue bands from a short-lived shared federation in the 1820s.

Once you know the family resemblance exists, the game becomes less about memorizing 196 flags individually and more about narrowing to a region fast, then spotting the one detail (a star, an emblem, a stripe count) that tells countries in that cluster apart.
